Gemma 2
Gemma 2 is the second open-weight Gemma generation, initially released at 9B and 27B, with a 2B tier added in July. Its architecture alternates local and global attention and applies soft capping for training stability. The smaller tiers use knowledge distillation. Pre-trained and instruction-tuned weights support local text generation, reasoning, and adaptation under the custom Gemma license.
